For copyright reasons I won't post a YT embed but this is a short 5 minute OAV by Makoto Shinkai who did 5cm per second and voices of a distant star.

Another one I liked which you can watch on the site is Kaede Newtown. A story about a 5th grade boy who was once praised as the Miracle Child for surviving a several story fall unharmed but later became known as the Occult Boy after he told everyone he could see ghosts.

And another one I often reference is La Maison en Petits Cubes. A story about an old man that is reminiscing about his past in a world that is slowly being destroyed by raising water levels forces people to build higher and higher into the sky.

This one has a ton of views and is a small independent animation about a girl's confession. The animation style is very unique and it reminds me a little of something you'd see from Studio Ghibli but also mixed with some more western styles. Below is a raw version but it's just as enjoyable raw as it is subbed. It is done by Ishida Hiroyasu.

Another one by Ishida Hiroyasu that shows a clear influence by Studio Ghibli. This is about a little girl who discovers a robot in a town of rain.

Yea, she's one of the more popular vocaloid singers. There's a few of them out there, but they all tend to sound similar to me. Love the music, it's just not something I go out of my way for. Apparently she's designed based on a carrot. xD

Even though this animation is short, it is still really good quality for an independent film.
