Story...

The premises of the story for this Anime are like that of other Harem Anime that came during it's time. We have the case of a shy boy who is unable to do much when a mysterious girl changes his life. Sound familiar? Well a lot of harem Anime have borrowed this idea such as Girls Bravo, Heaven's Lost Property, and Ah! My Goddess to name a few. Though it can be said that Ah! My Goddess pulled it off better. After the introduction episodes we see very little development of the plot. Rather we get giant alien watermelons desiring to be consumed and a fight with King Kong at the center of the Earth. The Anime is a series of random scenarios in which are characters get caught up in that follow in no real order. The Anime's main concentration was never so much on plot development as it was to provide comical ecchi, more on this later. The ending of this Anime is like most other Harem Anime where we are left wondering who will he end up with.

Now as for the comedy it is limited in it's appeal. I myself enjoy those situations in which the main character gets caught up in misunderstandings which this Anime uses a lot. So from what I said above most of the comedy is based off of character interactions. This wouldn't be a full review unless I mentioned the ecchi factor that this Anime is mostly known for. The ecchi scenes are like that of those of "Love Hina" which came before this but more intense. It seems from analysis that as time goes on ecchi Anime keep breaking certain boundaries that old Anime would never touch. The ecchi scenes themselves are tied into the odd events of the Anime and sometimes end being just as odd. The ecchi is none to original in some aspects but can be funny if you find appeal in what it does offer.

Characters...

The characters in this series were not well presented as they were in the Manga. The characters are stereotypical in their personalities and issues. Due to lack of development the characters lack memorability and may be hard to like if you don't like their personalities in the first place. The characters don't receive much development except in the middle half of the show but that's only the main characters. One highlight for the characters has to be there sociability in which every character knows each other and has a certain set of feeling affiliated to them.

One aspect I liked about the romance is that the girls here have a legitimate reason to fall in love. Rito, the main character, is a generally shy guy but contains a respect for all life with one of his flaws being that he falls a lot into "situations". But I feel that due to his nice and protective behavior the girls in this series had a reason to fall in love here. Still while there was reason for love it never really developed except in select episodes though it can be argued that with all the adventures they had acted as development for the characters relationships.

Sensory...

-Visual: The character designs themselves stick close to the manga's design but the animation does not complement them very well. The coloration of the characters were rather bland due to simple shading and dull colors. The background themselves were just as simple as the characters in them.

-Animation: Considering when this was made the Animation is rather choppy and this can be seen most evidently in fight or fast-pace scenes.

-Auditory: Both the intro and outro songs fit the Anime due to the happy tunes but are not very memorable. I myself and bias to the music.

Personal Perspective...

I myself love this series as it was my first taste of the harem genre. Besides that I'm more of a fan of the Manga due to it concentrating more on character development thus making me love the characters. The series was funny to me as I enjoy comedy that revolves around  misunderstanding and funny facial expressions. Now most people say this show is nothing but fan-service and I have to slightly agree. Unlike it's Manga counterpart the Anime looked more towards comedy and fan-service but with undeveloped character it was lackluster. Still I love this Anime more then most due to me being bias to the series in general.

Judgement...
After some calculations including my own overall enjoyment I have come up with this score.)

Score : 4.9/10

Some of you must be thinking wait he did this review already well your correct. But unlike my other review that I felt was to bias I gave it a proper look. Just because it's a 4.9 doesn't mean I won't love it! Now to newcomers who don't know me I like this series for reasons other then fan-service as most imply. These reasons are due to the Manga which has fleshed out the characters and maintained comedic elements I love. Now I could rant all day but instead I recommend you to check out Ebel's Blog my partner during this Romcon!

Story...

The story here held the potential to be dramatic and intense but a flash of pansu indicated the true horror of this supposed horror Anime. The story here is comedy dependent on bland fan-service with the addition of a predictable plot. The fan-service in this Anime is overly used and grows scale in taste becoming an annoyance quickly. If you eat the same dinner for days on end it grows boring as you get used to it well the fan-service here is persistent and ends up like that dinner, garbage. Due to trying to use ecchi and moe as a main support without a good story, comedy, action, or any developed appeal it set itself up for collapse. Ecchi is meant to be a minor element not a dominant theme but most Anime today don't agree with this idea.

Now looking past the fan-service the story lacks plot development due to trying to concentrate on other elements. Besides the expected lack of romance development and stereotypical ecchi this Anime includes some darker parts making them stick out when compared to other elements I see. Just because it sticks out doesn't make it a good thing like drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth. I feel the darker aspects of the Anime showed the potential the Anime had at the start but due to the nature of the rest of the Anime it never fits in well when the scenes do come around not to say they were bad but it never holds up.

So besides this Anime's identity issues about being a serious or light hearted story there is still one more turn down and that is the "side stories". The characters go on a lot of side adventures that always divert away from the main issue. Besides adding more side characters, that serve no purpose, it advances the story minimally. The new side characters are either over shadowed or become fodder to the fan-service.

Characters...

The cast here are built like a lot of characters from other series making them less memorable. Besides being forgettable they never really spiced up the Anime with their personalities which I found to be disappointing as it could have made this Anime decent or at least more enjoyable. When watching the Anime the characters personalities besides being weak seem to change, and become more intense when dark scenes come around, this signifies the lack of adaptability in the characters in dangerous situations as they are forced to take on different personas. As far as being a good source of comedy I didn't laugh at most of the humor but it may fall down to personal taste as I just felt the humor was weak and similar to many other Anime of the harem variety.

Now the romance if you could even call it that was horrible. It got nowhere just like everything else in this show. I'm sure you guys heard of the cliche in Anime when the girl freeloads off the guy and they end up together. Well I thought I thought this would be the case but we didn't even reach this point. I'm not sure if I'm happy that this Anime avoided a cliche for once or angry at the lack of any form of romantic development. In the end I don't think any of the characters actually had feelings for each other except for the big-breasted one who was some sort of childhood friend big surprise.

 Sensory...

-Visual: I found the character designs pleasing enough and they were good for the time it was produced. I think the choice of color was good especially during the darker scenes. During the darker scenes the color palette for the surroundings changed to assist in creating a mood for the time which I felt was a nice touch. When the fighting stops the scenery is rather pleasing and nicely done.

-Animation: The animation wasn't smooth and this is a problem due to the fact that the Anime has a good amount of fight scenes so good animation can really promote that if it were done better.

-Auditory: Due to that dark aspects of the Anime and the lighthearted aspects of the Anime finding a song to complement both is hard. I feel the choice in the opening song was made to appeal to the lighthearted elements leaving the dark half of the show to be discovered. The song itself is nothing amazing either and is soon forgotten.

Personal Perspective...

While watching this Anime I was fairly confused and enthralled. I liked when the Anime got dark as it was a change of pace but never did fit in. A lot of the elements were just weak and never left an impact. I would not recommend this Anime to anyone as there are plenty of average Anime that are better then this.

Synopsis...

Hideki Motosuwa is a university prep school student who just recently moved to Tokyo. After arriving to Tokyo he runs into his first persocon, an advanced humanoid computer that everyone in Tokyo uses. Hideki would more than anything want to own a persocon, but he only has one slight problem. Hideki cannot come close to affording one. By a stroke of luck one day he is walking back from a local convenient store he accidentally finds a persocon laying around in the trash. After a hectic battle to find the on switch, being in a very peculiar spot, he finds out all she can say is Chii. Hideki soon learns that Chii is far more work than he could of ever of imagined, and a blessing in disguise. Hideki must now teach Chii new things and try discovering the secrets behind Chii's programming.

Story...

The beginning episodes of this Anime are spent introducing the main characters as well as the main problem in the show. After the introduction of said problem it seems the plot slows down. Instead the first half of this Anime is spent with us watching Chii going around the city performing cute and funny actions as well as watching Hideki struggle with his new life in the city. During this time there was plenty of comedic moments that made it an enjoyable watch. The plot of the story saw little progression in this time frame of the Anime. While it is okay to have comedy in place there needs to be a limit on how long it persists.

In the second half of the Anime to some people's content and others peoples discontent the main problem of the Anime has light placed on it. This could upset certain individuals who watched expecting a comedy fest until the end. Rather then comedy in the second half of the Anime the drama ensues itself. It is not that the comedy has stopped but it does take a back seat. It is here that we see the effects of humanoid machines or persocons on people's lives. It is also here that the problem of Chii's past gets some light. It is here when it get interesting.

What I can say about the plot development is that it's the main problem here because plot development should not be held off until the end as it rushes aspects of the story that should be slow in a romance. This Anime had 24 episodes to work with so half should not be spent on character comedy time. If anything the comedy should be mixed in when there is a serious side to the story. But I feel the transition into the second half of the Anime was well done and the drama kept me watching like the comedy did in the first half.

Characters...

The main characters in this Anime are made from old molding. We have the main male protagonist who is the average idiot who is also a nice guy thrown into an unexpected situation. And then we have the air headed female protagonist. I have to say I couldn't be happier with this. Indeed they are overused or stereotypical as some would say but this does not mean they don't serve their purpose well. In this case the purpose is comedy. Due to the nature and interactions between characters we get some good laughs as the Anime plays through. Though when the Anime gets a more serious overtone their types don't mix well altogether, except perhaps Chii due to her already mysterious nature.

We do get to see some insight into some of the characters of the show. As you would imagine based on what I have been saying this development rears in around the second half of the Anime. Most of the development surrounds the side characters as they represent the effects of persocons on people's lives and society. Chi also gets attention as she is apart of the main situation of the whole Anime.

Sensory...

-Visuals: The art style in this Anime for me was unusual at first as I have never seen eyes like Hideki's drawn in that style before. The way the characters are drawn here may be a turn off for some people as it is not seen as often in today's Anime. One of my personally  favorite things about this style would have to be the facial expressions the characters show when exhibiting their emotions. It is a more classic style that is simple but nice to look at. The background scenery is rich in detail but may go unnoticed as we watch the character antics.

-Animations: You know the animation is good when you have no complaints. In general the animation remains constant throughout giving it an evened it feeling.

-Auditory: I will talk more about the music here. As for any music it falls under personal preference. The opening song is cheery and catchy suiting the Anime well. There are two outro songs for this Anime one in the first half and the other in the second half. The songs themselves aren't as memorable but serve their purpose well. The first outro song is more cheery while the second is more calm and intense, this works well as the Anime gets more serious in the second half.

Personal Perspective...

This Anime is considered by some as a classic. I put it under the same regards because it was one of the first ten Anime I have ever seen so it wasn't stereotypical to me as it would be to more experienced otaku. The show was funny, cute, and the characters were lovable. It had comedy, robots, love, and moments that made me pause to think. It was simply put a wonderful experience for me. The plot of the story shouldn't be taken so seriously as it only becomes relative in the last half of the Anime. This Anime is something you should look into if your in the mood to have a smile painted on your face.

Hello my fans! *crickets*. I really need to get these bugs out of here. Anyways I made Blog or more properly said a review either way I haven't made one in a while. I have to thanks Ebel for putting me back in action with this February special. I'm sure you noticed a major change in the way I review. Over winter break I have decided this structure would better help promote what I'm trying to say about the Animes I review. I have to say it is much better then the rambling I was spouting before in old reviews but that is debatable. Also how I rate Anime is now much more mathematical rather then random (I did calculations). So this is only the first of my February Reviews that I'll be doing with Ebel so be sure to visit his Blog, he says he's lonely. But I can tell you one thing he is an Able guy. So as always remember remember my name is misspelled on purpose and click below is it helps me clear up those crickets.
