"Ramen Fighter Miki" Mangaka Passes Away
8/14/2013
Around 5. A.M. on August 13, police announced the death of mangaka Jun Sadogawa, who is suspected to have committed suicide. He was found hanging from a tree in Shinsui Park from his hometown Ibaraki Prefecture. His vehicle was found in the parking lot, but no suicide note was found in his belongings.

Mr.Sadogawa created Ramen Fighter Miki, his debut manga, back in the year 2000, which was then adapted into an anime in 2006. He was producing his second manga, Amane Atatameru, which was being published in Weekly Shonen Champion. Jun attended comiket this year, and it was believed that he went as a final farewell to his friends and fans.

Jun Sadogawa, whose real name is Mutsumi Kawato (Jun was his pen name), is the third death in the anime/manga industry this year; he joins voice actor Kenji Utsumi and Serial Experiments Lain & Sakura Wars director Ryutaro Nakamura, who have passed away from illnesses.

He was only 34 years old.

Please pay your final respects to these artists. Also, If you're ever thinking about suicide, please reach out to someone. You're never alone.

We've lost too many good mangaka in the past to suicide. Too often do people choose to keep depression, and other issues, to themselves without talking to anyone. It always makes you wonder what works they could have come up with next if they kept pushing forward. I'm reminded of Chiyomi Hashiguchi (Nekojiru).

This is another sad day. His work is now considered incomplete at least Amane Atatameru but I wonder if he was under stress for not wanting to do this kind of manga. I wouldn't know if this is true or not; however, if you want to sell manga, novels or anything similar you have to follow the trends. Otherwise it won't sell unless you are very confident in the manga. On a side note, this death reminds me of how I was sad about Takahiro Yamato's (author of Kaze no Stigma) death. This is truly sad.

Thanks for your point of view; it's true that they have stressful careers. Yes. Suicide isn't always due to loneliness, but what I meant was that there's always someone there for you to lean on and talk to. You don't have to go through it alone.

The job of being a Mangaka is very stress full. While we may enjoy their creations it was very stressful of them as they are always on a deadline. You could say they are forced in position there at a point because not meeting a deadline is very bad. They didn't commit suicide out of loneliness they did so as an escape from the stress they have to face to make a living. I do pay my respects.
